Physics of Hard Spheres Experiment (PHASE)

The Physics of Hard Spheres Experiment (PHaSE) is a NASA Lewis Research Center fluid physics space flight experiment whose purpose is to investigate the behavior and physical properties of a colloidal dispersion of hard spheres. The Microgravity Science Division of the NASA Lewis Research Center has the responsibility of implementing the PHaSE space flight experiment. Onboard STS-94 and STS-83 MSL-1.

Structure of Flame Balls at Low Lewis-number (SOFBALL)

The SOFBALL investigation is the study of a relatively new combustion phenomena, observed in premixed gas combustion, called "flame balls." Based on the short duration microgravity research done to date, flame balls are spherical shaped flames which are apparently stable. Payload on MSL-1 on STS-83

Vented Tank Resupply Experiment (VTRE)

The Vented Tank Resupply Experiment (VTRE) will test the performance of Capillary Acquisition Vanes for future spacecraft liquid storage tanks. These vanes are designed to keep liquid from inadvertently venting from a tank during refilling or pressure relief operations in the zero gravity of orbit. Flown on STS-77
