First Material Processing Test (Fuwatto '92)

Fuwatto '92 was the first space experiments carried out in
earnest and aimed to test as much as possible. It involved sending
up a Japanese payload specialist (PS) to carry out Japan's first
manned space flight, which had been preceded by the selection,
training and health management of PS candidates, most of which
was independently carried out by Japan. The aim was for Japan to
build up techniques and experience in these fields.
