Fascinating research into how living organisms grow, develop and survive in space
was carried out in May, 1996, on space shuttle flight STS-77 when the Aquatic
Research Facility ( ARF ) made its first voyage into space aboard Endeavour. The findings are expected to
help scientists better understand the long-term physiological effects of living in space as well as providing
clues to the treatment of certain disorders on earth.
Built by MPB Technologies of Montreal, ARF is a joint development of the Canadian Space Agency
and the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.clues to the treatment of certain disorders on earth.
